Socrates | Translation: Mutiullah Hotak
Whenever I read stories related to the death of Socrates – written by his students. Therefore, we show unknowing sympathy to this old philosopher and we know this philosopher who could not lower himself and apologize to the judges, he did not even accept the offer to escape from prison. He used to say: “Death is the best option for human beings against breaking the law.”

Socrates’ catchphrase was: “I know that I know nothing”. The standing man is the same familiar philosopher, bare feet, patchwork clothes, and slender figure. Ancient antique chests were similar to the picture. These boxes are still available in antique shops. These boxes are designed very simply, but when you open the top of the box, you will see that the owner of the house has saved the most valuable jewelry and birds in it. Socrates was also like this, he had a long nose like the ancient depicted gods of Greece (Silnos). His words were simple and rural, but if anyone had listened to him once, he would have understood that the speaker had valuable thoughts.

What was the basis of Socrates’ teachings? What did he teach people?

Aristophanes himself introduced in the play the clouds/clouds that stand between the earth and the sky and study the position of the stars. But Aristophanes was also wrong, because Socrates was not like that. He did not waste his time on research and study of the stars, he did not believe in the study of nature. He said: “Knowledge of nature has no effect on human happiness. Anaxagoras also has this kind of false notion. He ignorantly said that the sun is fire, but he was unaware that he can see the fire, but he cannot look at the sun with his eyes and it makes his eyes dazzle.

Socrates used to mock the philosophers and say that they could never agree with each other, each calling the other a fool. Some of them believe that all the materials that make up the universe are one, and others believe against it. Some of them say that existence came from nothing and has no end. Some of them believe that all things exist from the beginning and never perish. They want to master nature with all these differences. Will they be able to control the wind or the rain? Man cannot discover the secrets of the gods. Besides, the gods don’t like anyone who spills their secrets.
The same story was repeated here. Although the addressee was a good person and thought that he was capable of everything. The sculptor was like that. Each of them, who was familiar with his art, thought that he knew everything. Among the followers of Socrates, there were some young people who did not seem to know themselves and were searching for the truth like their teacher. If he finds it anywhere, everyone will know it according to his understanding.

Socrates wandered the streets and public places of Athens to find a wise man. He went to a public place in Athens, and some of his young friends were there. After greeting them, he sat down on a floor and started talking to the people gathered there. As always, the conversation started with “What is absolute goodness?”

He asked Cleneas, the youngest of them:-

“Is it true that everyone is looking for happiness? Or maybe this is a silly question? Better to ask it like this; Who doesn’t want to be happy?”

“Of course no one,” replied Cleneas.

“But what is happiness?” Maybe there will be wealth?

“That’s what I meant, Billy,” said Cleneas.

“Well, is happiness only in wealth, or is it also in health and strength?”
