From Pashtuns to Hazara and Baloch

Paktika, centered on Sharan city, is one of the southeastern provinces of Afghanistan. North of it is Paktia province, northeast of it is Khost province, east and south of it is Pakistan and west of it are Zabul and Ghazni provinces. Paktika Province was once a part of Paktia Province, but with the passage of time in 1343 AH, it was included as a separate province in the administrative organization of Afghanistan.

Pashtuns constitute about 96% of the population of this province. Uzbeks and other ethnic groups from Hazara and Baluch are also present in Paktika. Also, in the 19th century, a group of Tajiks who were engaged in iron sales were also present in this province.

The Greek historian Herodotus mentioned the ancient people “Pektis” and “Pektois” and mentioned their land as Paktika. Ptolemy also wrote the name of these people as “Pectin”.

Sharan: (in Pashto language Sharan) is the center of Paktika province. The number of its villages reaches 129. The population of this city is estimated at 2,200 people. In November 2004, the Americans established a base called the provincial reconstruction team base in Sheren.

Oregon: This district is located 70 kilometers southeast of the center of Paktika. Ergun has 122 small and big villages. The original inhabitants of Ergun district are the formal tribe, and around the center of this district, the Pashtun tribes of Zadran (Jadran), Khoruti and Pirkoti live.

In the center of Oregon district, there is an old (octagonal) fort, which is known as Ashrokh (eight-sided) among the local people. Most of the inhabitants of this district are Hazaras and Pashtuns and they speak Persian and Pashto languages.

Omaneh: Omaneh district is located 60 kilometers southeast of Sheran city. The population of this district is estimated at 25,690 people.

Barmal: This district is 90 kilometers south of Sharan, and has a common border with Pakistan. The population of this district is estimated at 88028 people.

Truvo: Truvo district with 45 villages and a population of nearly 15,332 people is located in the south of Paktika province.

Janikhel: with a population of nearly 35,251 people, it is located 75 kilometers south of Sheran. This district has 93 villages.

Dila and Khoshamand: It is one of the districts located in the west of Paktika Province with a population of nearly 50,200 people.

Zarghoonshahr: It is among Paktika districts with 63 small and big villages and has a population of nearly 38 thousand people.

Ziruk: This district is located in the southeast of Sheran city. Zirok has 51 villages and has a population of nearly 43,200 people.

Sar Rouzah: This district is located 20 kilometers south of Sharan and is one of the greenest districts of this province. The population of Sar Roza is about 36,236 people.

Sarobi: Sarobi district is located 75 km south of Sharan, and its number of villages reaches 92. The population of Sarubi is about 48,291 people.

Gomel: Gomel district is located 70 kilometers southwest of Sheran city. There are 150 villages in this district with a population of nearly 64,275 people.

Gyan: Gyan district is located in the southeast of Sharan city, which has 67 villages with a population of nearly 42,495 people.

Matakhan: Matakhan district is located 15 kilometers northeast of Sharan city and with a population of 19758 people, it is one of the closest districts of Paktika to the center of this province.

Neke: Neke district is located in the east of Sharan city and has 30 villages with a population of nearly 15,103 people.

Vazekhah: Vazekhah district is located 190 km southwest of Sheran city. This district has 151 villages with a population of nearly 50,818 people.

Varmami: This district is located 230 km south of Sheran city. There are 127 villages in this district.

Yahya Khel: Yahya Khel district is located 35 km south of Sharne city. Yahya Khel has 57 villages with a population of nearly 30,161 people.

Yusuf Khel: This district in the south of Sharan has 66 villages with a population of nearly 32,648 people.

At least six Afghan cities have been fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan military since last night. Some sources announced: “Panjwai” in Kandahar province, “Ziruk” in Paktika province and “Kofab, Argo and Kohistan” in Badakhshan province have fallen to the Taliban since last night.

These cities fell into the hands of the Taliban when the Afghan soldiers left the centers of these cities. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced today (Sunday) about the fall of Farah Rood city in Farah province to the Taliban.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan announced: “Baharak” city of Badakhshan province was removed from the control of the Taliban during the operations of the Afghan military and returned to the control of the Afghan military.
