Jawzjan Arabic (a word whose origin was not Arabic) is the Persian word Guzgan (fart meaning walnut + gan, suffix of the placeholder noun). In historical books, the name of Jozjan is recorded as Jozjanan and Gurganan.
In the third and fourth centuries, Jawzjan was very important in terms of its geographical location; At that time, Jawzjan was limited to the Jihun River from the north, from the east to Balkh and Takharistan to the vicinity of Bamyan, from the south to the end of the Ghor and Bost regions, and from the west to the region of Gharchestan.
Geographers have written about this period of Jawzjan as follows: its mountain range, which was connected to Taleghan Mountains in Takharistan, had flowing waters, mud buildings, many trees, especially walnuts and almonds. The name of Gozgani hardy people, which was issued to all of Khorasan.
The existence of valuable historical and ancient monuments such as Tala Tepe, Yameshk Tepe, Balahisar Shabarghan, the tomb of Hazrat Ibn Yamin Shabarghani, the remains of the historical building of the Chaghchi Castle and Balahisar Aqcheh are proofs of the history of this province.
Tala Tepe is located five kilometers from the northern outskirts of Sheberghan city, which has 22,000 illuminated works, one of the most unique historical works in the world.

Aqcheh: This district, which means white or white, is located in the north of Jawzjan province on the Mazar-e-Sharif-Meimneh road. Aqcheh district is considered one of the important and industrial districts in the north of Afghanistan. The carpets and skins of Qara Qol (a breed of sheep) of this district are very famous, but the majority of the income of the people of this district is through agriculture, farming and animal husbandry. Agcheh district also has cold winters and mild summers.

Khanqah: One of the districts of Jawzjan Province, which is located in its center, is Khanqah or Khangah. The population of this district in 2019 is 26 thousand 36 people. Khanqah district is located 45 km east of Shaberghan city, the capital of Jawzjan province. This district is bordered by Faiz Abad district from the east and south, Aqche district from the north, and Shabarghan city from the west.

Khamab: This district is located in the north of Jawzjan Province and has a population of 15,811 people. Khamab is bordered by Turkmenistan from the north, Qarqin district from the east, Khaje Dokuh district from the south, and Turkmenistan from the west. People are engaged in carpet weaving, agriculture and animal husbandry.

Khaje Dokoh: This district is one of the districts of Jawzjan province, which is located in the northwest of it. Khaja Dokoh district is bordered by Khamab and Khan Charbagh districts from the north and northwest, Shabarghan city from the south, Mangjak district from the east, and Andkhoi district from the west. Khaja Dukoh is a fertile region that is rare in Afghanistan. The population of Khajeh Dukoh district, most of whom are Uzbeks, has been announced as 30,424 people in 2019. This district is the birthplace of Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, head of the National Islamic Movement and one of the military commanders of Afghanistan.
